By the way, if you would like to meet the authors featured in this year's volume, go to Lulu's Horror Page and scroll down about half way to the Share Your Scare section. Under that there is a short bio of each if you click on the boxes with names. Click on the orange "Show Winners" box to display the names/bios of the Freeform authors.

I sent them a story but they eliminated me because I don't live in the States, even though I have dual nationality British/American. Boo too!

Ahhh, this is the result of that competition only Americans were allowed to enter.
Sorry to say my interest in reading this then is about the same as Lulu's interest in my taking part i.e. Zero.
Yes I know that sounds petty but hey, that's the way I roll.

My guess is that there are regulatory complications and costs involved in opening it up to overseas folks, since there are "prizes" involved (though the prizes are less than the shipping costs for them). The entry agreement has a lot of lawyer-speak boiler plate attached. You must bear in mind that this is something they do just for fun at their cost and effort. There is no profit involved. In fact, I'm sure they take quite a loss, considering the time involved in reading and sorting the stories and the costs involved in printing and the shipping fees involved for the copies they send out. Overseas shipping is probably prohibitive.

I'm sure that if I wanted a physical copy the £9.66 ($12.40 USD) it costs to buy and send the paperback version here to me in the UK would help defray costs and bump up that profit somewhat.
Anyway. I've come across this kind of thing before, where you send in a story or poem to a company, get it printed and receive a complimentary copy. Of course most people want to share their success with friends, relatives, colleagues, prospective agents etc. or even put one aside "for best." So they order an extra copy or five and the company involved counts the money.
But since Lulu are a trusted, reliable, professional company who put their customer's interests first something like that would never even cross their mind.

Dammit, and I was going for irony there - ".....a literary device in which contradictory statements or situations reveal a reality that is different from what appears to be true." Now sarcasm would have been something like - "At that price, and with with all those gruesome stories, Lulu have gone out of their way to produce one cheap and nasty book." Have A Nice Day!

"Sarcasm is an ironic or satirical remark tempered by humor. Mainly, people use it to say the opposite of what's true." So this site tells me, examples.yourdictionary.com/examples-of-sarcasm.html Lets face it Lulu is the opposite of " But since Lulu are a trusted, reliable, professional company who put their customer's interests first something like that would never even cross their mind."
But then I see "Verbal irony occurs when a speaker's intention is the opposite of what he or she is saying. For example, a character stepping out into a hurricane and saying, “What nice weather we're having!” blog.flocabulary.com/definitions-and-examples-of-irony-in-literature/So I guess bizzley that your statement was both sarcastic and ironic.
