While the vexing problems discussed here on this forum were dire, I wondered about the lack of 'a lot more' people coming in and detailing their negative experiences (in all aspects). The two major problems I've noticed are the reporting/distribution (go hand in hand?), and the actual cover creation for those who are not technically minded enough to create a full cover from the template provided. So I did a bit of searching (googling with 'lulu problems' and similar search strings). I ended up here au.trustpilot.com/review/www.lulu.com and was a little surprised at seeing 61% / 21% for Excellent and Great respectively - that adds up to 82% of 'satisfied customers'? The reporting/distribution aspect is a vital component of self-publishing, the cover wizard is not (as that can be remedied by a little learning by the author). Bottom line, if Lulu fixes its reporting/distribution mess, the other crap will soon be forgotten, drowned by the virus - and a little more response on author-created tickets would go a long way as well.
I'm now settled in at Mybestseller.co.uk, and will stay there - my personal gripe with Lulu being that they simply tossed away my twelve uber-huge photo albums (and only sent me the PDFs on my asking - no email about what was about to happen). From an economic point of view by the company, I can understand it, as the books weren't eligible for distribution, and far too expensive to produce, also relying on Flash for creation. From an author point of view it 'p....d' me off something shocking. Alas, that's a very minority collateral damage kinda thing looking at the big picture. I have a copy of each photo album.
So, going by trustpilot reviews, once Lulu gets its reporting/distribution mess fixed, all should be honky dory again?
