What does it mean "Normalized interior is required to publish"?!?!
The Design part of the lulu process links to a PDF Creation Guide, but there is nothing in there explaining what "Normalized interior is required to publish" is?
I am using the standard template Lulu supplied, so why is this being so difficult?

After I selected the paper type and so on the "Normalized" thingy went away... this seems to be a serious bug in the Lulu system.
Now I am trying to upload my cover and I get "Page Count: We found more than 1 page in your file. For a cover file, you must upload a PDF with a single page for the front, spine, and back cover.
Book Size: Your PDF dimensions are 11.944" x 8.514" (303.39mm x 216.25mm)For the book size you selected, the PDF dimensions need to be within 23.567"-23.692" x 8.458"-8.583". (598.61mm-601.79mm x 214.82mm-218.00mm). Please update your PDF dimensions or select a different book size."
again I am using Lulu cover template, so why am I seeing this?!?!? makes no sense.

I found out I can change the export settings from "pages" to "spread" and it creates the correct cover from InDesign. Why isn't this the default for the template when creating a cover?
of course there came more problems. The copyright has a lock on it, means I cannot change that. The pricing / payees has a lock on it, is this going to open? Basically I cannot set a price. what is going on?

So many of us have had similar problems with the updated Lulu. It took me ages to get my cover right. Finally I downloaded the template and made it a jpg. (I used "Paintshop Pro to work) then I made my cover the exact size of the template. To convert it to a PDF I used the free online adobe converter. My cover was accepted. If you want to contact Lulu use this help.lulu.com/s/contactsupport?language=en_US You will have to respond to the automatic reply you get. From time to time the live contact appears on the above page. Lulu is based in North Carolina. Good Luck. PS Lulu has been promising to give us a better cover wizard for ages, but as yet it hasn't happened.

Normalizing refers to the standard of PDF created. If you want to be sure that a PDF file conforms to a certain standard, use the PDF/X standard . Regarding the size of covers the easiest way to understand it is that the cover is a single sheet of paper wrapped around the outside of the book and so it embraces the front, the spine and the back. For a hardback it is even larger as it can then include front and back fly leaves. For a bound hardback there must be an outer addition for wrap around. Personally I always graphically deigned a one piece cover and created a PDF from that. I think that I may still have in my Spotlight a book ‘Designing Covers for Lulu.’

elken I always used the wizard in the old Lulu and never bothered with the all-in-one. Unfortunately the new cover wizard is so awful. They give you 4 options, none of which I liked, so I had to learn the new all-in-one cover by downloading the template. With advice from bizzley and the JesusNinja I was able to make my cover and I self-published my book in the up-dated Lulu.

Going through this whole process was a pain. I ended up with a book that is NOT global Distribution because apparently you can NOT have spirals for global.. nor can you have A4 layout (or letter layout). So, I decided to start over and I checked everything .. yes I can create a letter (portrait), black & white standard and saddle stitch....... now after a whole days work and uploaded the file the option for saddle stich is NOT AVAILABLE..... OMG what is going on!!!! I am now considering finding another publisher. There is no information why the saddle stitch is NOT available (when it clearly is stated it is on the website for support global distribution). I feel like I just lost two days of my life for nothing. read here: www.lulu.com/sell/retail-distribution ... clearly states "US Letter" supports saddle stitch. I even used the pricing page here: www.lulu.com/pricing to check if everything would be ok... I do NOT get the same options with my book when using the tools for publishing.

Apart from the coil binding being out though it is available for 2 to 470 pages, saddle stitch is 4 to 48 pages, and A4 is supposed to be available. True, Lulu Press doesn't have all options open for all paper sizes.
It might be easier for those doing hard copy at Lulu Press to hopefully provide helpful answers if you provide a bit more detail about the type of project you're working on.

I am working on a childrens book: A coloring book, that is 44 pages, using letter (portrait) and the www.lulu.com/sell/retail-distribution says this is support.... but it IS NOT, when you try to publish it the option for saddle stitch is NOT available. I do not know how to be more clear about this.

Your other option is to try Live Chat at Lulu Press tomorrow, or enter a help ticket there. On the help ticket read the auto-reply and reply to it saying your problem was not resolved -- you'll hear back from Lulu Press at some point.
To be clear, Lulu Press isn't open on weekends.

I do not know how to be more clear about this. Have you selected to sell the book in distribution channels or the Lulu bookstore? Choose that option and change it later to direct access. Maybe that is why the saddle stitch is not an available option. Or, the opposite. Click around and see if saddle stitch shows up.

I am using the standard template Lulu supplied, so why is this being so difficult? Just print using the setting PDFx1a. They could have just said that, true. Ignore the word Normalized. It means nothing.

I do not know how to be more clear about this. I have made many colouring books. It's doable. Just some small detail you're missing. So, come back and ask if you get another error message or obstacle.

You can do 8.5x11 perfect bound at lulu and have distribution. Or you can go to Ingram Spark and have any binding and size you want. Free setup right now. No proof to order The down side; bookstores can return it, 90 day payment delay, separate reports for each currency and country. Shipping cost I believe is higher. No printer in Canada. Other than that all is good.
