Hello
I used to rely on the old cover wizard, which has now gone.
Did somebody offer some advice on how to use the template?
I'm really not sure what all of the measurements and terminology mean.
Many thanks
I have downloaded the template but not sure how to proceed.

The new cover creation method is and will continue to be a problem that affects quite a few people who post. As such it has been covered several times already so you might want to check back so see what has been written about it, a good place to start would be with this Thread HERE
Please don't be put off by all the diffferent suggestions and explanations (especially mine!) and know in advance that others have posted with pretty much the same problem with the new cover method and have then gone on to produce covers that Lulu have accepted.
So have a read, see if any of it makes sense, don't get confused by all the techy stuff and post back here with any questions.

Many thanks I have downloaded the template but not sure how to proceed. Make your cover big enough to cover all the coloured lines on the template. Keep all your content (barcode, all text, logo, important images)far from those coloured borders on the template. That is all.

Thanks
Let me ask a quick question - I presumably have to download and put my own barcode in this time?
With the cover editor it was automatically placed on top of the back cover
thanks

With the cover editor it was automatically placed on top of the back cover thanks Yes, the new system is vastly inferior to the Cover Wizard we were used to. It's a disaster. You have got to paste the barcode on the cover yourself - whether this barcode is yours or the one supplied by Lulu. It is best to add it last, once the cover is finished.

You can publish with any POD if Lulu ever goes under. You will have the skill.

Thanks for your help so far I have been doing this all on publisher I need to add a bar code but the following image will give you the idea However, I am puzzled by this warning "Full Bleed: Please note that a white Bleed margin has been added to your file. The book preview will show how this Bleed margin impacts your file. If you require image content that extends to the trimmed edge of the page, please upload a PDF prepared for Full Bleed" I'm not really sure what this means. When I made the book's cover I made sure to cover the bleed areas at the edge of the page. Can anybody help? thanks I want this to work out as I bought the cover photo from a professional who was working in 1976 and took the image at Cow Palace, San Francisco

My theory is that Lulu calculate tolerances to three decimal places and unless your supplied cover is 100% exact - if it's expecting a dimension to be something like 12.345cm then 12.344cm is incorrect - it will generate this message and add white bleed to anything less than 12.345cm to make it so. These are incredibly fine tolerances especially if you supply something that is spot on 12.34cm which Lulu will have told you is the size it should be (or your creation software rounds up\down when generating the PDF cover) yet still generates the Bleed message for the sake of .005cm.
While it may appear to the naked eye that a white bleed has not been added if you take the Print Ready file of the cover and view it under extreme magnification you will likely see the white border that has been added to pad out the cover after all. As an example, one of my Lulu-generated Print Ready cover PDFs has to be viewed at 400% before the extremely small added white bleed even appears and it's easy to mistake it for something added by the PDF viewer software. Once you hit 1000% you know something's there and it's nearer 2000% before it becomes a bit more obvious, you really can't spot it unless you're specifically looking for it.
If you seriously have to go to these extremes to see what's barely there then it won't be on the printed cover since the the Trim Area is so much bigger it won't make any difference. Just make sure that the cover PDF dimensions are as close to what Lulu ask for, to the hundredth of a centimetre, and as always check your Print Ready PDFs first and get a proper printed proof copy in your hands before committing to anything.

Once your cover is finished, don't forget to fill all the outer margins of the template with the background colour of your choice. This will considerably limit the hazard of having some narrow white band added by the printer to the bottom outer margin of the final product.

Your stamps will be cropped.

Thanks for your advice, everybody I followed Bizzley's advice and did the exact size from the template - there is no warning now Maggie - I don't mind the ticket stubs being cropped as that was the sort of effect I was looking for Here it is with the bar code

Why do I see white borders, though? Is that your cover or the template?

Hi Maggie - it is simply the snipping tool on Windows - I didn't snip it close enough to the edge.
