Firstly, many thanks for all the advice on how to make a cover the other week. I made one I am happy with and will post it below. I have placed the softback on global distribution. However, I am having issues getting the hardback to go global. It tells me on the "start" page that to get global distribution I need to make changes on the "design" page. However, on the design pages, all of the green icons indicate it is suitable for global distribution. I could try to contact Lulu but I have heard they are no longer very responsive, so I am asking here if anybody can help Happy Xmas

They made a huge mess of my hardcover books and took forever to figure out that they are in fact using Ingram Group (Ingram Spark) to print them but weren't using their templates. And your book will be $20 more because you are going through Lulu. Go to the source. The same one used by everyone for hardcover. Ingram Spark. Please.

Huge, huge difference in template for hardcover. Make a big black background, crop front and back, center separately, and shrink them.

The only sticking point is that you need to have your own ISBN number. In terms of the wrap-around cover, I have already made on - I will receive a test copy sometime soon from Lulu. However, I hope that I will be able to use the same 6x9 print-ready PDF for the dustjacket on Ingram. Do you think that I will be able to do that if I choose 6x9 linen wrap on Ingram? Again, I am posting below - but this time it is a jpeg of the PDF not the finished product

As a French author, I noticed my hardcover books are no longer manufactured in France, but either in the Netherlands or a third country with the Netherlands being used as a hub. The problem is that the new manufacturer's products are too stiff. My paternal grandparents' biography - a private publication - used to be in two hardcover volumes with jacket. Because of the change, the new edition is softcover. The jacket : The softbound cover:

They have a dropdown menu now where you can select their ISBN. Use them. You will not regret it. $49 for a tiny book? What? I felt stupid for using Lulu for so many years.

What I meant is that you need to purchase an ISBN from them - that correct, isn't it?

Thanks, Larika and Maggie
I have made an Ingram account and let you know how I get on with moving the hardback over to Ingram.
This latest book will probably (hopefully) be my biggest seller, so it is important that I get it right.
Will keep you updated - which may also help anybody else who is interested in making the switch.
Although I love the quality of Lulu's books, like many other people, they've let me down in a really big way over the past six months.

Yes, the code waves all fees, but if you use the code, you cannot have a free ISBN
Upload your book for free with promo code* FREE2020 (all caps, no spaces). *Offer not valid on previously submitted titles; code must be used at time of set up! Good for up to 10 titles per account. Not available with use of a free ISBN.

used to be in two hardcover volumes with jacket. Because of the change, the new edition is softcover.
For our friends not speaking la plus belle des langues: I'll take the liberty of answering you off the cuff: Whether it has a cover with a flap or not is of course an aesthetic question. But what immediately caught my eye are the different back covers, which cannot be explained technically. One is very professional with a short biography of the author and a blurb that invites you to read on. The other time somewhat arbitrary, more reminiscent of photo books compiled on the computer. The multitude of differently sized pictures almost smother the author and biography and push them out of the top of the book. I would prefer to pick up the first book seven times, not because of the higher quality cover, but because of the much more appealing back cover.
