Hi everyone, thanks for your help in the past. I'm now at the stage where I can go 'live' with my book. I've opted for a Lulu ISBN and it says that if I am creating my own cover (which I am) I must include the Barcode JPG which Lulu provides. BUT, when I click on the 'Download' button next to the barcode it gives me it as a Microsoft Edge HTML Document / SVG file and doesn't appear to have any way in which to save as or download a jpg. Am I missing something? Many thanks!

The last time I did it, as I didn't understand what to do, I simply made a screen capture of the barcode picture, and pasted it where indicated in the cover template.

I too discovered this "enhancement" of Lulu's new system last week. My solution was to open the downloaded SVG file with GIMP (a powerful, free image manipulation software) and RENDER the image large; say, at least 1,000 pixels wide. You will see that the image is black bars and numerals on a transparent background. (I was going to put this on a black cover so it didn't do me a lot of good.) Select the transparent areas and then bucket fill with the color of your choice. White is a good choice. Then Export As PNG, JPG, GIF or other file type you choose. It was sure a lot easier when you could just download a PDF. It would have even been even easier if you could simply download a PNG; but what they give is what we get.
--------------------------------------------------------------
P.S. It is good to learn to do it yourself, but if you e-mail it to me, I will be happy to convert the file for you. Having done it once I can do it again quickly and easily. Not a problem at all.

Marvellous, thanks all, I'll give that a go. One other thing that seemed strange - I'd printed a test copy, black and white on the 80g paper, but when it came to recreating it as a copy for sale it didn't want to allow me 80g as an option, just the 60g yet all the other settings were identical. Does Lulu restrict paper type when it's for sale rather than private?

For standard size paperbacks in distribution they only allow 60 cream or white. (Well, last week anyway...)

There are many free bar code generators online. Some make the jpeg too big. Try different ones to get the right fit.
