We were shown pictures on the TV, here in England, of a Louisiana bayou after it snowed. It was so beautiful.

Aye, it's beautiful but also deceiving. Most of the bayous have alligators living in the vicinity, Up in the southeast part of Oklahoma there are alligators using brumation [think hibernation for cold-blooded animals] to get through the cold snap they haven't seen the like of in over 100 years.

Another new word you've taught me Cameron, thanks _--"brumation". Yes those poor creatures, they're just not used to the snow.

Alligators don't see snow often, but they've dealt with it enough they are adapted to surviving it.

Just like frogs, I guess. I regularly visit a place at 10,000 feet altitude. In May there are still drifts of snow perhaps 2 feet deep back under the trees and the night time air temperature drops well under 20 degrees F. And yet, that is when the tree frogs make the most noise - at night in May, their breeding season. Through the winter they are dormant underground and in the summer they are silent.

View AttachmentThis is not anywhere close to being as pretty as the pic you shared, but here is our neighborhood street a couple of nights ago from our window. It was a sheet of ice. Looked like a skating rink.

Looked like a skating rink. That's a good picture @tynermason. On TV yesterday we were shown young people playing ice hockey on the iced over streets. Amazing!
