IUNIVERSE... I used this company thru my old editor long ago when i wanted to be published and with his 'wiseness' i got 3 books published with no issues. Then with his experiences and 6th sense he took me to lulu for my book no4. He gave me a few skills on how to do what he did, publish books, now in 2021 i have 150 there at a guess.
But the dreaded terrible huge publishing step backwards came and here we all are. Vexed at lulu. Will get worse? I hope not. The worst company to self publish on is IUNIVERSE but i had no issues. Many others did.
What do you writers/poets/bloggers/authors etc think of that company? If this thread already exists pls merge it mods thanx.

I always thought it was a vanity press, where you have to pay to publish your book.

I always thought it was a vanity press, where you have to pay to publish your book.I checked out Iuniverse Mag2024 and I think it is a vanity press. As ronmiller always says if you have to pay to publish a book it's a vanity press. However he told us that "Vanity publishing---- has largely been replaced by digital print-on-demand" Also he mentioned that a traditional "publisher is taking all the risks in publishing the book: editing, printing, binding, advertising, marketing, etc. These are all things you would have to either pay for out of your own pocket or try to do yourself, regardless of experience. They even take on the expense of paying you an advance---which is a total loss to them if your book doesn't sell well. Yes, they are making money from your book...but so are you. Every dollar your book earns is shared with you. And you don't have to do a thing: instead of devoting every waking moment to promoting and marketing your book yourself you can instead focus on being creative and writing your next one...and letting the publisher sweat all the details. And when your contract with the publisher is over, you still own the copyright to the book. You can publish it yourself, you can sell it to a different publisher, you can do anything you want with it."

Iuniverse is/was classed as a vanity press tho i have not heard that term in many years as POD took over yes. I avoid such companies and ask others not to use them or such firms for their books.
