Is $4.99 too high a fee for having a pair of experienced eyes double check things before rejection by the distributors?

The supplementary question surely is what’s the bill out rate for a support technician?

So is it these other companies who have changed their policies. Before it was Amazon etc. who did the reviewing. I remember waiting ages to see if my book had been accepted for their sites. We were told that Amazon and other sites were reviewing the book and it could take 2 or more weeks.

Other companies have not changed their policies they are just reinforcing them.

Amazon still checks, as do other points in the distribution chain. So I presume that previously (before the update when ebook distribution was free) either Lulu first checked the books for free or Amazon etc. have made Lulu check first and then they double check. I wonder which one. Maybe before the update they really were more philanthropic Ken and were doing it freely, benevolently and generously.

Is $4.99 too high? In this economy and many out of work trying to make money with books, I'd say yes. It might actually deter some from publishing. At the moment I can't afford it so anything I do will be paperback until much later. But yes it might be good to have someone look over your book before sending it on. "But" this is going to slow down the time it gets online drastically. If you've read on the site it might take up to three weeks to get approved this way. Then another two to six weeks to hit Amazon.

No human checks this, but a machine within seconds. Based on the error messages, I can then technically revise the book until it goes through. About the price: I either pay for individual services (checking, hosting, etc.) or a certain percentage per book sold. But if suddenly both are demanded, then I feel like a double payer.
