They absolutely want to send all user data back to the US. Understandable but also creepy.
Now, for those of us who have business pages there, with years of work in them, the lesson? Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Doesn't that simply mean that they are going to keep the existing information on servers physically in the US? That should have little or no effect on service. Conversely, I'm pretty sure my domains are based on servers in Germany somewhere, but I have never had any issues whatsoever. I'm confident there are backup servers running on multiple continents.
It's a small world, after all.

They'll work it out. It looks like it's just another opportunity for lawyers and politicians to make money.

I am sure Facebook will not close down anywhere. It makes vast sums of money from advertisers in most countries. They may face what seems to be big fines at times for not doing as they are told, but it's just money from down the back of the sofa to them, and life goes on. And as Blue says, their servers are all over the place. This is in Sweden www.theverge.com/2016/9/29/13103982/facebook-arctic-data-center-sweden-photos they have another in Iceland.

True and disturbing, but if you want to sell it's a good place. 1.5 billion users. And they the are first to show up in Google searches.

They collect everything. They even have other sites requesting permission to collect data for them. But there are things you can do to limit the harvesting of your data. Do not answer the question when you log out, after you've spent 30 minutes on the site. They ask, Is this you? Were you in the right account? Just go to Google, and clear your history. You can also clear your history after every site you visit. Then watch to see if the ads you come across are targeted.

My FB comes up as Greek. I have to wait for it to be translated into English. They know if you're in Europe.

Yes, I use it for it's Messenger and also to view the photos that my relatives (from other counties in England and from other countries) put on Facebook.

True and disturbing, but if you want to sell it's a good place. 1.5 billion users. And they the are first to show up in Google searches. A rule of thumb of what can be charged advertisers is so much per potential viewer. So it's in the interests of place that carry adverts to overexaggerate the numbers. Facebook actually say they have 2.5 bill active users. But from what I have seen on there is that many people open an account, and then are not active on them. And possibly even less so now there are the likes of Instagram, etc. I suspect that some Facebook users do use Facebook a lot, and each use is counted as an active user. A person updating their page 50 times a day cannot be classed as 50 individual active users, but on the surface I bet Facebook do not differentiate. I have placed stuff on Facebook many times, to no results. Maybe it depends what you are selling. It's really the same as anywhere else. If people do not know you have a web presence, then they don't look. I have no idea what you are searching for Maggie, but in my searches Facebook is never mentioned.
