Being roughly 60K words into a novel I started writing on 6 March of 2020, if anyone is interested in the opening lines, chime in.
Being of an older obsolete model, I have to wonder if my work is still functional in the current context.
Perhaps there will be an interest in an older form, not quite an epic tale as it has been writ.
Aye, it serves as a distraction as well as basic practice...

"People like me quit dreaming when the world around us started dying en-masse. With no way out, we knew we'd leave an empty planet behind. Sure there'd be lots of plants and animals, just no living people like us, anywhere, ever again. All that would be left behind was crumbling ruins, unburied remains, and shattered possibilities." Excerpt from the debriefing of Samantha Erika Fairley [place of origin unknown], June 21st, 2005 – Classification Level: SCI, Eyes Only, Crypto Access Authorization Mandatory

Sphinx-Cameron, I went to your very professional site. There I saw a picture of you. You look so young. Mind you anyone below 60 seems young to me!! Where are the opening lines you wrote? Who knows I may get to like science fiction. I have to admit I don't read science fiction books, but I do love science fact, especially learning about our universe.

What a coincidence. I'm also about 60,000 words into my latest novel. It used to take me around two-three months to complete a novel, but these days I'm not so prolific. However, with this self-isolation, I foresee much writing.

That picture was taken about eight years ago, back when I was 53. Specimens of the line like my eldest brother and me don't tend to get marked so much by time until right before the end, when it catches up with us in a hurry. From a joking sci-fi perspective, once our ability to draw enough raw energy from the fabric of space-time degrades, we lose our ability to slip past and through time.
I added the lines to the original post, perhaps you'll like them. Speculative fiction isn't all ray-guns and interstellar travel, sometimes it's slipping between here and there or a detective story featuring androids, among many scenarios.
The website could be better, but it serves a basic function.

In many respects I've always preferred the silences of the quiet places where only the wind whispers against rocks and branches. No sense of isolation though, with a trio intent on conquering all they perceive.

Hopefully the opening lines in the original post weren't too awful.

There is, of course, a ton of science fiction (it's been around for nearly 200 years) and a dozen different varieties, so it's easy to go astray. And then, as Theodore Sturgeon once said, "90 percent of all science fiction is crap. But then, 90 percent of everything is crap." So it might be good to have a guide if you want to start reading science fiction!

Sphinx-Cameron, I've bought your eBook "Regeneration,Capturing Shadows" I'm reading a humourous book at the moment and I'll start yours as soon as I've finished it. You never know I may get hooked on science fiction. I loved both Ron's book and hulseys books (not science fiction) I still go and visit Ron's spirited female detective.) I'd love to buy a poetry book written by our very talented poet BlueAndGold but he has no eBook.

Hopefully my humble offering doesn't disappoint. I'm nowhere close to being in the same league as Ron or most other writers.

By the way, I've started my first new Velda story in a very long time...

Ron,
Some characters take on lives of their own, always ready for new adventures and the stories as go with them.
Congrats on starting a new story.

I have not written anything for a long time even though I do have something as yet unfinished. It's not so much Writer's Block, it's more a case of losing interest, even though I still have a head full of potential stories. I often go through such phases. A great flood of words for years, then nothing for a few more. I actually got distracted by these >> www.ea.com/en-gb/games/the-simswww.frontier.co.uk/our-games/planet-zoowww.jurassicworldevolution.com/en-GB#mastheadAnd what you see there is what you get. Anyway. What about some last lines? My main output has been a series, and this is how one ended >> > With a wide grin, Lilium states, “who knows,” then asks needlessly, “Would this be the sort of thing you were talking about, then?” < And the next in the series says what it is.

Ron, Some characters take on lives of their own, always ready for new adventures and the stories as go with them. Congrats on starting a new story. No kidding! All of my characters are extremely real to me and oftentimes a story line is diverted by something the character just naturally had to do. Probably the most real (to me) of my characters is Velda, who has kind of taken on a life of her own. And I would be the last one in the world to argue with her...
