We have found that understanding the risks involved with daily life, whether slipping in a tub and breaking neck or getting struck by lightning tends to dispel fear. As for people being seen as potential death, that has been the case since people have been people. Does it mean you have you need to fear everyone? No, but it does mean you should be aware of people and their capabilities. As for people being turned against each other, the divide and conquer tactic has been going on for an extremely long time. Sad to say critical thinking isn't taught so much these days. Yes, people are dumbed down by screens nowadays. They don't even assign 1984 in classrooms anymore. It made people too protective of their rights. People only have the rights they're willing to sacrifice to keep.

People only have the rights they're willing to sacrifice to keep. There are other ways to keep our rights. Sacrifice sounds like something a person in power would say. If I have learnt anything from all those King series I have watched it's that people in power are not to be trusted blindly. Ever. Humans must question.

Believe it or not I hold no position of power but I will willingly sacrifice much in order to have my children able to see a better future.
Enough of my predecessors sacrificed their lives in the attempt to help bring about a better future for their progeny.
True humans should question, just as they should also practice critical thinking since doing one without doing the other is an exercise in futility.

We all sacrifice for our children, true. But one must also keep rights and freedoms protected for future generations.

As for protecting rights an freedoms for future generations, it's contingent upon each generation to continue assuring that is done.
Plenty of people in the U.S. have willingly given up a lot of their kids' future by backing some very venal, duplicitous politicians.
The next few years should prove to be a very interesting ride.

You're my friend. I do not want to disagree and argue with you anymore.

But it made me super paranoid about gov't control. There are two approaches for a tracking app: decentral and central. Decentralized has the advantage that the data is stored on your phone and not elsewhere. Since data protection rules are not the same in all countries and only cross-country apps make sense (since we like to travel), a centrally stored app will remain a patchwork.
Which direction is your government going?

I like you, but I'm too weary and outdated as a relict of the past. I am nothing in this version, and I know it.
At times what I am forced to deal with at night is better than this, degeneration.

Which direction is your government going? They mention things, they pull it back, test the waters again by saying it's a possibility, take it back. So nothing is definite yet. I can assure you it is not going to work here. People will throw away their phones first. And it doesn't help that I make every person I meet paranoid. And they tell their friends. It will not happen here.
I turn off the radio when I hear the word pandemic and I stopped looking things up, so I didn't hear a recent politician use the word "obey." People told me. Imagine that: You must obey, she said.

Yes, degeneration. Unbelievable.

Got to love the politicians who were spouting their support family values finally getting honest, whether it's admitting people would die so they could reopen the economy or actually finally saying it's okay for a lot of senior citizens to die because the money is more important than the people. The one out in California was really upfront, talking about how the country needs to cull the herd to get rid of all those drains on society like the elderly, the disabled, the handicapped, and so on.
Good times

Disappointing. But. If the economy is shut indefinitely everything will starve.

Disappointing. But. If the economy is shut indefinitely everything will starve. Well if that is the only parameter that matters, then since in reality the people are the economy it would appear there is no good solution other than allowing nature to take its course. That means people like me who are often considered a drain on society are removed for the good of those who actually benefit.

Not really. My mother is much older than you and she is strong and not a strain on society.

SphinxCameron, I am reading a book at the moment about the hardships endured by people who had left or been forced to leave Ireland and move to America. Life was indeed hard and many sacrifices were made in order to "bring about a better future for their progeny".. My daughter's partner who is an Irish Catholic, (not from the aristocracy like you) always wanted a united Ireland, but now he feels it's better if they stay separate. What a pity religion and what the British did in the past in Ireland has divided these people.
