It could well be that I am starting to appreciate science fiction Kevin. It's odd that some say they dislike SF because it's not real, but no fiction is real. Also I'm starting to listen to the latest popular music (remember we spoke about that, I know your son is a musician too) My nephew is. He's quite an accomplished guitarist, but earns a living from landscaping, he could be a good session musician, but cannot read or write music! He's in a few bands. One actually does original stuff. as against my beloved Ella and Frank. I particularly like my son's latest efforts garykmusic.com/ Good music never changes, as long as it's by accomplished musicians and singers, but many people seem to get stuck in a rut of what they listened to as teenagers. I bet you will not like this though! But give it a good listen. www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=26&v=TZRvO0S-TLU&feature=emb_logo it could be called SF music
How about this? www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3nb_r18ug0&list=RDZ3nb_r18ug0&start_radio=1&t=57 I like music that insists you listen to it.

So Kevin drew that image he posted!! Well Kevin in my opinion, as a character, it's a good drawing, but it's not Lentifa. Your fellow is someone I wouldn't want to meet!!! He's scary. Perhaps the descriptions and backgrounds to the aliens eventually changed from what I was given a long time ago? Some were certainly not particularly human in appearance, and one was at least hunter-gatherer type warlike. Here's another. A shame there's a 1mb upload limit here.

Spot on Kevin. I didn't!!

Kevin I have only met one alien in the book so far and I thought you were drawing the lovely female character Lentifa. As I progress through the book (from what you have said) I will meet other aliens. From personal experience I try not to create an image of an author's character.(Except in my head) If I know the person or have photos of him/her I will do a drawing or a cartoon. The author knows his/her character intimately and for an artist to give the author what he visualizes is difficult. It was good of you to try. I hadn't realised you had drawn the figure, I thought you meant it rang a bell from another author's story. Over the years both you and Ron have been very helpful to Luluers. I hadn't realised you both did drawings for them for free, I also assumed that the brilliant cover that Ron did for "Daddy Who's That Man" was one he was paid for (I hope he was it was an excellent cover)

One of our members is called adrianallan and he is also a musician/author. He said on his site that Paul McCartney could neither read nor write music and it was certainly not a hindrance for him. It can be that too much theory can interfere with song writing. However like your nephew McCartney could never have been a session musician where one must be able to sight-read and to perform several different genres.

The descriptions didn't change. Perhaps it's more a case of how different people visualize things. From one description you can get a horse, a camel, or an elephant, though the horse was what was intended.

Talking about elephants This poem version of a hindoo tale is very insightful
THE BLIND MEN AND THE ELEPHANT.
A HINDOO FABLE.
I.
IT was six men of Indostan To learning much inclined, Who went to see the Elephant (Though all of them were blind), That each by observation Might satisfy his mind.
II.
The First approached the Elephant, And happening to fall Against his broad and sturdy side, At once began to bawl: "God bless me!—but the Elephant Is very like a wall!"
III.
The Second, feeling of the tusk, Cried: "Ho!—what have we here So very round and smooth and sharp? To me 't is mighty clear This wonder of an Elephant Is very like a spear!"
IV.
The Third approached the animal, And happening to take The squirming trunk within his hands, Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a snake!"
V.
The Fourth reached out his eager hand, And felt about the knee. "What most this wondrous beast is like Is mighty plain," quoth he; "'T is clear enough the Elephant Is very like a tree!"
VI.
The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear, Said: "E'en the blindest man Can tell what this resembles most; Deny the fact who can, This marvel of an Elephant Is very like a fan!"
VII.
The Sixth no sooner had begun About the beast to grope, Than, seizing on the swinging tail That fell within his scope, "I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a rope!"
VIII.
And so these men of Indostan Disputed loud and long, Each in his own opinion Exceeding stiff and strong, Though each was partly in the right, And all were in the wrong!
MORAL.
So, oft in theologic wars The disputants, I ween, Rail on in utter ignorance Of what each other mean, And prate about an Elephant Not one of them has seen!

I have now read almost half of Sphinx-Cameron's book so I have met some more aliens. (Sorry it's so slow Sphinx-Cameron) Certainly Kevin's second image seems to be closer to Lentifa's people than his first drawing.
People who write science fiction have to do so much research in order to produce a novel. I am amazed at Sphinx-Cameron's imagination. I hope some of your characters don't give you nightmares S-C. I am finding the book interesting and have a feeling that there is a very deep meaning in the book about our world and human behaviour. I think even in real life Sphinx-Cameron wants to be understood and tries to explain his views. However many people don't really listen and therefore misunderstandings occur.

Lady Elizabeth, Once you get through all three parts of the story I believe you'll understand a lesson I want my children to learn early via my work, as some lessons I won't be around long enough to get across to them. Often enough in my daily life as you noted "many people don't really listen and therefore misunderstandings occur", too often with the result of trying my patience.
I believe some of what I dream and later visualize could be termed frightening or terrifying to others, but only another twenty years or so to have to put up with dreams of that nature.

Yes I'm sure your children will learn lessons from your books. From what I have read so far the books show a deep thinker who would like to bring about change and create understanding. From what you have written about your children they all sound very clever and also very lively. You are obviously a very big influence on their lives. However apart from helping your offspring your books will benefit others. Thanks Sphinx-Cameron.

"Mongo" is assuredly a force to be reckoned with.
All I can say is I don't know how deep a thinker I qualify as [being a fairly simple creature from my perspective] but I learned a while back it's often easier to get some points across via engaging and entertaining peoples' imaginations.
Other than that I'm "only a pawn in game of life".

"Kevin I have only met one alien in the book so far and I thought you were drawing the lovely female character Lentifa." I was only given species names, not characters. I took the option that they are androgynous, as a lot of SF aliens seem to be. The detailed descriptions I was given did not put the image in my head that they were human-like, apart from having the same limb and head-count.

have you been looking at Victorian 'zoology' and exploration books? But it is a fact that many people are not able to visualise things regardless of how good a description is. It was a while before I realised that.
BTW. It is said that a camel is a horse designed by a committee.
