Indeed, well done, although I think the graphpaper effect for the top of the cover is out of place, and the title and your name could be much larger. Don't be shy!

My comment seems to have disappeared. I was just congratulating you on publishing your book deborahinwi and wishing we could still make previews. I also must agree with Kevin's analysis of your cover I think those slight alterations would improve it.

I played with this a mere few minutes and I like how simple it is, but still makes a nice design.

OK, I will be pedantic here. The feet are not in the sand but on it. There's quite a lot of water, more water than sand. And, maybe the feet are too small. The title is Feet - Sand.
In another thread I asked what prog you are using to create the cover in, because it looks like the type of cover created in the old Lulu Cover Wizard, simply using the text and image frames.
Excuse me saying this but that brown looks like baby poo, and there's too much of it compared to the content.
You could actually move the image down and do the title >
Feet in the Sand
(Centred).
Or
Feet in the Sand
As a subtitle under that you could have
Poetry
(Centred).
That would leave enough space for your name, without the 'by'.

I has to agree with justkevin the background color needs to change, though it ain't baby poop unless you be feeding a kid lots of refried pinto beans. Early baby poop on lactation resembles lizard / snake yellow, iron fortified bottle formulae is nasty green, and a kid chawing meat tends to be dark brown. Don't want to talk abouts the popcorn aftermath.
I agrees with him the "by" ain't needed.
Maybe tries a sky blue for the background to remind folks of a sunny day at the beach?

Well I liked the cover. A clever photo which catches the eye. And I also liked the graph-paper effect, particularly because I hadn't seen it used before. If your book was laid out with a load of others on one of those tables inside a bookshop, I think it would stand out. So there, everyone!

I understand how difficult it is to hear critical comments, but that's often the price one pays when posting a cover and asking for opinions. I don't think Kevin was being "nasty" deborahinwi, he is a very honest person whom I have known for many years on the old Lulu forums. He was expressing his honest views on your cover in order to help you. (Kevin helped so many people in the old Lulu forums.) Maybe the words "baby poo" could have been omitted but DO Tell's explanation that baby poo doesn't look like that anyway should make you smile. sirram liked your cover. I think it's best that I don't comment on your revised cover as I don't want to upset you. Just go with sirram he really likes your cover.

She said oly shit, which is quite funny. Go deborah.

... I understand how difficult it is to hear critical comments, but that's often the price one pays when posting a cover and asking for opinions ... This Board is headed "Book Announcement and Promotion", not "Please criticise my Book Cover". And, after all the author's hard work, it does seem pointless to pull their cover-design apart - unless of course he or she had previously uploaded a draft and asked for comments. I've seen a number of covers on this forum which didn't appeal to me. All of mine, of course, are brilliant.

Precisely!
This is the ANNOUNCEMENT Forum, NOT the Critique & Help Forum.

Ron made suggestions for my book when I announced it and I really appreciated it. I had to revise the book but it was worth it. If someone is trying to help you make the book better I think that's a good thing.
