I want to have a new edition printed of my grand-parents' biography - hardbound with jacket, a private edition reserved for my family. The number of pages of the new edition being 252 instead of 224 for the previous one, Lulu asked me to recreate a cover using their template. I did my best, but was not happy with the result. It was then that I realized I had the Lulu PDF of the cover made with the cover wizard several years ago. I adjusted it to the new dimensions indicated by Lulu, and uploaded the result. It was accepted, although the process is now blocked at the stage before approval, as often happens. Now I wish I had downloaded all the my Lulu cover PDFs. Unfortunately I only did it for a few. I sent Lulu help a request how to download all my old covers.

This morning (2020-09-29) the process is still blocked after I have verified the contents and the cover. I want to accept them, but no button is displayed which I could press to continue.

This shows that Lulu still haven't got it right. BlueAndGold is confident that Lulu will soon be fine, but my gosh it's taking them so long. I hope all will be well soon Potet. Good Luck.

Thanks, Larika. This morning (2020-09-30)Lulu support e-mailed me the usual automatic stuff without dealing with my specific problem. The process is still blocked after the contents and the cover have been accepted by Lulu then by myself. Reviewing their system, I noticed "Please Note: This iteration of the Cover Creator is temporary and will be replaced with a more robust tool soon." [undated] Perhaps I should wait until they have developed the new cover wizard.

Lulu have been saying that for a long time. It took me ages to get my latest book cover acceptable to them. As we all have been saying, the old cover wizard was so easy. So sad! I've got another book which I'm working on. Let's hope that Lulu pulls out all the stops and presents a better cover wizard soon, otherwise, like tasmanianartist, I may go with MyBestSeller.

I'm wondering ... I have updated some covers of the 'restored' books I'll keep private for my own purpose on Lulu - I cannot recall such problems (but then I am not using ISBN) - I simply made a new document to the measurements in the downloaded template, adjusted spine, bleed, fold, etc etc, made a PDF and uploaded - watching the wheel go round and then the preview appear, then carry on to the next item, being pricing etc, I believe. So the delay in covers being accepted by Lulu may have something to do with ISBN - and publishing to industry channels, which all have their own requirements of what books (or their covers) are acceptable to them. These are just my 'throw-away' thoughts. And if Lulu are going that 'extra mile' in 'the backoffice' to scrutinize book covers (again, just my 'throw-away' thoughts), it begs the question 'why'? My covers upload and the books are ready for me to purchase within minutes (unless I get a measurement wrong). So if it's the ISBN - Industry Distribution connection, then the problem might not be wrong measurements. (Also: non-logged-in quick replies are being 'quarantined' now by this forum ... I might have to dig up my password again ... doh)

I dabbled with a test cover made by the Lulu templates 'wizard' such as it is - again, without ISBN it went straight through to being accepted and available for me to purchase. So as with the above (my covers uploaded as PDF), it must be the ISBN, and public publishing to the industry channels.
Into quarantine with this quick reply ...

This book of mine is the first volume of a hard-bound with jacket two-volume biography of my paternal grandparents. It is private, reserved for the members of my family, and has no ISBN. Another Lulu clerk e-mailed me this evening (2020-10-01) to inform me Lulu had de-blocked the process. Indeed, a few minutes later, I could order my copy. Lulu must be spending a lot of money on the programmers in charge of adjusting individual cases.

"De-blocked the process" What does that mean? Did they block it on purpose or was it a failure of the software system?

At last - taped the login credentials to the vacant space next to my macbook's touchpad ... doh ... don't have to be quarantined anymore ...
Ah! that's interesting. I would also be interested in what 'de-block the process' means ... rather than speculate ... Glad you were able to progress in your private biography project.
Indeed, a lot of individual case fixing going on.
While I'm always prepared to work through such upgrade woes, and stick to a company that has published 60+ books for me, losing my favourite 'photo album' books with a blanket 'delete/no longer supported' sweep leaves a bad taste behind. However, I still have a few private projects on Lulu, so will loosely follow the progress - but the Dutch company has all of my remaining, still 'publically published' books now.

I was just too lazy to get up from the TV room settee and go fetch the PW from the office - but now, with guest replies being 'quarantined' (sign of the times? Quarantine is so 'on trend'...), I got the motivation to finally get the PW from the office and tape it to my macbook. I'll sure be interested in finding out what that 'de-blocking' is all about (or the blocking in the first place). Thank you for liking my arty-farty design ...

From what I can tell [having done system support in the past] the quarantine of guest posts or new members with fewer than five posts is to slow down spammers.
Helps cut down on the number of people trying to advertise gambling sites and such.
