I read your "scare" poem in volume 3. It is so clever and scary.

BWAHAHAHAHA!! Thank you, Larika! I'm glad you liked it. (It won me "Awesome Lulu swag".)
Harvest Moon was fun to write! Tetrameter poems are by far the most fun from a writing perspective.

I have sent the following questions to Lulu now three times, and I simply get no answer; they just ignore me! 1. My book - Collected Poems, 1970-2020 - is marked 'Approved for distribution' on the 'My Projects', page, but it does not appear in the Lulu bookstore, or on my Author Spotlight page. Why is this, and what can I do, please?
2. Why can I not access my author spotlight page from the Lulu website? Have they simply stopped communicating with people? I'm inclined to 'retire' my book and republsh it on KDP. I simply don't know what else to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? Daniel Hi, I have similar problems with Lulu... They just keep on messing up my product (calendars): flipping pages upside down, using a completely wrong design, etc. Even after being able to contact somone via chat a while ago (only took ~10 days...) and being assured that this is a rare printing mistake (<1% error rate), my customers keep on receiving faulty products (at >20% error rate). Does anyone have an idea, how to talk to someone that is actually in charge at this company? Customer service is practically non-existent and I am in a tight spot with my own clients... I know chances are low... but happy about any suggestions. Best wishes You can try Live Chat at Lulu Press Monday through Friday [not sure about weeks with major holidays]. You could try calling [M-F US Eastern Time Zone], but again not sure you'll get relief.

I have always argued for patience and for Lulu here. Until the support wrote me, if I didn't like it, there would be other providers. Lulu's marketing man did not find this very funny, but what happened in the following months has unfortunately confirmed this in some cases.
You have to track your requests yourself. Follow up after the deadline set by Lulu or otherwise after every week. Write back if the answer is insufficient. Wait if the mail server is down. Re-write.
I would like to give you better advice. And for calendars it is especially difficult. We do have a special section in the forum, but real alternatives seem to be very rare.

Having a Spotlight is of no use now. They have no personality. The About Author part is till not fixed. And I really don't like the constantly having to click to show more books. Each time you still have to scroll down the previously loaded books to see more at the bottom It's a very poorly planned website. It looked so much better before. Obviously made to work with phones which ruined it for us PC uses who actually us PC's to publish books. I don't really see much fixed after all of this time. I'm actually more concerned with my books getting back out for sale. It's been two months now and I know Lulu is not concerned with my loss.

I don’t understand your comment. I just looked at Benziger Spotlight (by clicking his link I the post above yours) and it looks fine. Where is yours?

I eventually found my spotlight, which has changed a lot. It needs upadating, but how do you edit it? Also, how do readers find it? I had to search my own name. www.lulu.com/spotlight/HULSEY/

It is so, hulsey. Just like your friends from Lulu planned. You can't change anything, because it's perfect. If it has errors, you can contact support and they will change something in the introductory text - someone had this information from Lulu in early summer - you see, they are communicating, at least from time to time. They were asked to write more positive things about Lulu. So: With every revision of the Spotlights there are less features. This is in line with the philosophy "less is more". (Unfortunately most of the Lulu authors are followers of other philosophies, which explains the length of the list of their wishes for the last ten years (!). In the beginning (which is positive again) Lulu moderators wrote "take in consideration" for some of the wishes. Whether something has then been implemented, I won't write anything about that, because I want to write mainly positive things in this post.)

Since it seems increasingly likely that LuLu is about to go out of business, I'm a little worried that the books/files of mine that they already have will simply disappear.

cloudberry The "telephone Lulu" has just been brought back. Lulu is based in North Carolina. It says that you can talk to a lulu support specialist. help.lulu.com/s/contactsupport?language=en_USPS Bob Young started Lulu and I think he still owns the company. Here's a little about him www.crunchbase.com/person/bob-young Perhaps you could "tweet" him.

I sincerely doubt Lulu is about to go out of business. Similar things have been said multiple time over the last twenty years. I used to be able to email Bob Young and other senior managers but they never did more than a little lip service. My advice would be to stop moaning and just make the best of what you can with them. They’ll continue doing what they do and will continue with a host of new clients at the loss of the few.

Far too often there are people in positions of authority who refuse to listen to any advice [good or bad]. Ignoring what others think isn't typically a recipe for success.
Whether Lulu Press is going out of business really isn't important. What is important is if the people who use the service can utilize it well enough to make enough profit to keep using it.
The people who have taken issue with Lulu Press here are a microcosm, though judging by the complaints at TrustPilot, BBB, and elsewhere Lulu Press has lost more than a few clients.

Daniel If you can tolerate Lulu's Chelsea's high pitched, rather annoying voice at the beginning of this video you would hear her speak so enthusiastically about the updated Lulu. Paul then goes on to explain (as he sees it) the much better process of making a book.I think new people publishing for the first time will join Lulu. www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYkK3LmMyhkIt's many of us (who published with Lulu before the update) who liked the old site so much better, especially the cover wizard. Later in the above video I think Paul explains very well the process of how to self-publish on the updated Lulu. He also admits that Lulu is still ironing out the several problems. However I think it's taking too long. On a positive note it's forced me to learn the all-in-one cover and as Maggie says, it will be useful with other self publishing sites.

I’ll slightly take issue you on some of that. I doubt that the vast majority of Lulu users over the years had a prime motivation of profit or of making any significant money. The term I believe used to be vanity publishing and I’m sure that is still the motive for many. There have always been complaints in various places and probably from those with a profit motive. New comers will always more than make up the loss of those dissatisfied.
