I'm in Greece, using my aunt's wi-fi, and suddenly, for a few days now, my Google is French. I've tried to change it to no avail. Does anyone know how I can permanently change the search engine to English? It's driving me up the wall. 50 cent in French. LinkedIn in French.

For the search engine, look here: I tried to log in three or four times using startpage. It showed me as logged out. And I had to go through four images to prove I'm not a robot.

Startpage collects just the questions of the customers, send them to Google and brings you the answers back. Startpage delivers Google results without being spied on (according to strict Dutch privacy policy).
You can also simply go to Startpage or Duckduckgo and click on the three bars in the upper right corner and go to the menu "Settings".

Did that solve the problem Maggie? [br If I use a browser other than Chrome, yes. Thank you for asking. No energy to tackle Chrome right now.

For when you are www.groovypost.com/howto/change-default-language-chromeOpen Google Chrome, click on the wrench icon and go to Settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click Show Advanced Settings. Under the Languages section, click on Languages and Spell-Checker Settings. It will then show you all of the installed languages which are all English by default.

No, this ridiculous thing is still in French.

This is a bit of a step up from changing the Settings in a program - and a liitle more techie - but if you're not getting any joy once you've tried everything else then this may be an option for you. I'm always a bit wary trying to explain computer stuff to people I don't know since I can't gauge their level of expertise. Do I assume that they know what I'm talking about and plough straight on or do I risk insulting their intelligence by dumbing things down? So.......I can either point you towards an Android Tor proxy client which lets you set your own Exit Node or I can tell you how, using a totally free and legal app that you download from the Google Store, you can make it appear to Google, LinkedIn or anyone that you're in the USA (or anywhere else) rather than where you actually are. Of course they're referring to the same thing, it's just the techie explanation uses less words
