A few weeks ago, my latest book began to be advertised on Amazon as "coming soon", allowing a pre-order for it usual price of £25 However, now it is showing up as "available from these sellers" but at an inflated price from what I had planned. Is this another one of Lulu's glitches? This is the first book I have published since their wonderful "upgrade". www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1716381797/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_hsch_vapi_taft_p1_i0

Have you checked the prices on other Amazon sites?

Initial Proposed Amazon UK Selling Price = £25.00 Calculated USA Selling price (dollar conversion) - £25.00x0.728641 = $34.31UK Import from USA + VAT at 20% - $34.31 + $6.862 = $41.172 Calculated UK Selling price (pound conversion) - $41.172\1.37267 = £29.99(Pound\Dollar exchange rates from XE.com today) Factor in the different exchange rates Amazon use and their auto-price undercutting tactics and the numbers seem about right.
"A couple of weeks ago" it was December, all change for UK VAT on overseas exports from Jan 1.

Assuming we are talking about the same thing:
This is normal at Amazon for just about any POD book. Possibly others. These vermin will take a person's money then order the book for them. I was appalled the first time I saw it (the first time I published). The book had just hit Amazon that day and there ware already people attempting to sell used copies of my $20 book for $74 and even $364! THERE WERE NO USED COPIES! The only copy in the world was sitting on the desk in front of me. These vermin are so ever-present they are like water puddles in the street. Just ignore them. They will never go away.

That makes sense from a US - Uk viewpoint But I also notice that when ordering from and to the UK, my book is no longer available directly from Amazon, but only through other sellers at a higher price.

Many of my books are the same. These sellers as BlueandGold said will sell the books as used even when there are no "used" copies. Apparently someone might think the used copies are out of print or first editions etc. It's a scam. All of our books are listed on Ingrams. So each time a new book comes out these sellers jump on them. I'd check on EBay. All of my martial arts books are being listed on there by someone named GrandEagle. I wouldn't worry about it Adrian you still get paid for the books.

Yeah not worried about it I just wondered why Amazon don't seem to be stocking it and only the resellers 2021 looks set to be an even more confusing year than 2020!

If you live in America then Amazon.com will sell you your book directly, but only to certain countries. You can see this by going to Amazon.com and changing the 'Deliver To' option to somewhere like Canada or Burundi or Serbia. Changing 'Deliver To' to the UK, Switzerland or China takes Amazon.com out of the picture leaving citizens to rely on resellers.
It's been reported that Amazon.com won't ship certain items to Switzerland because of the way the country handles VAT transactions putting the burden on others. Presumably they have decided to do the same for the UK since Brexit even though postings by Amazon themselves say that they charge and handle all taxes when shipping to other countries.
Have you been in contact with an Amazon cutomer rep and asked them why this is going on with your book?

I really can't see my book being printed in the USA and then imported. From experience, Amazon prints on demand in multiple places around the world so should be printed and dispatched from the UK if ordered in the UK. In this way, Amazon works like Lulu - they find the nearest printer to the destination.

When I buy for my grandchild in the USA I buy from the American Amazon. It saves on postage.

Which is why you should speak to someone in Amazon Customer Services, because if the book is printed in the UK then no UK taxes should have been levied on it. I don't believe your book is being printed in the USA either but it's possible that Amazon assume that the book is being printed somewhere in the EU and thus now subject to VAT.
Just ask a rep why they have changed the price and if someone in the UK orders your book then from which country's fulfilment centre will it be coming from.

I’ve just conducted a sample of some of my book selling prices. On Lulu all are as originally set up. On Amazon all have been inflated and shown as out of stock.
