I may be wrong. But it almost seems to me that in April last year, in addition to a new Lulu website and a new cover generator, new Spotlights were also announced.
If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised if the old one was shut down first and then the new one was launched later. It would be in line with the company's philosophy. Maybe this is Lulu's unique selling point; the point where the company distinguishes itself from the others that build new things in parallel, test them and then - bang! - switch them over or even let the customers choose between old and new for a while?

I'll keep my glass half full too. If Lulu makes these Spotlights discoverable to a random shopper, I too would like to create one.

As BlueandGold mentioned, there is evidence of storefronts on Lulu at all. Unless you find a book, then click a link to their storefront you're pretty much invisible. But yes there are some who use the storefront to advertise. Can't remember his name but one guy created maps for a game and sent people from his website to his storefront to purchase them. He was doing pretty well I heard. I guess it depends on what type of books you are writing.
He's still making maps.

larika, the reason you may not see the 404 could be a result of you using Chrome.Ken When I click my spotlight at the bottom of my page I get the 404 page. However when I copy the address and put it into a browser that's when I get Lulu.

Ken when I put it into google it gave me 404 so it must be Chrome which takes me to lulu. However Chromepad only uses Chrome.

I am sorry, Ken, that is not an issue with Chrome. It is an issue somewhere at Lulu.
The good news are: They know it and they are looking for a solution, as they wrote about two hours ago:
"We sincerely apologize for the difficulty you are experiencing with your Spotlight page.
We are aware of the issue you reported and our engineering team is working on finding the problem and releasing a resolution.
We thank you for your patience until it is fixed."

Same exact generic text I received just now. The email still did not address why my books were still missing after four months and two different support people saying they would get them relisted. And did not address why I can't revise another book that is missing for no reason at all. It tried to convert the old interior without letting me add the new one. So there's not way to finish it and get it relisted on Amazon. All of these books are the ones that sell for me. I'm using Mozilla and still getting 404 error.

The storefronts (spotlights) are back. Just twenty minutes ago, I was told by Lulu, that they thank us for our patience while they "worked on fixing the incident with the Spotlight pages. The issue is now resolved" and our Spotlight page are back online. Lulu's support apologises "for the inconvenience this issue may have caused" us.

I got the same email Ken . However I and many others had to contact them. I contacted them several times. I still hope that everything will be OK, but we must face the fact that it will never be the same old Lulu, for which so many of us had great affection.

I got the same email Ken . However I and many others had to contact them. How can you say that? A number of different Tickets may have been raised but you surely don’t expect results based on the number of Tickets. What more do you expect from multiple complaints than just raising the issue properly and correctly in the right place. How many Lulu Staff do you expect to man the response center. Considering that the problem was first reported here late on the 26th February the response and resolution deserves thanks not continual criticism. If people are being critical it may be due to the fact in the past Lulu Press had fewer ongoing issues with how it worked, versus the roughly year long upgrade which was supposed to take two days and still really isn't finished.
In doing business with a for-profit business the expectation should be that reported issues are the exception rather than the rule.
I've done IT work, so I believe I might have some idea how maintenance and management work.

Ken , I admire your defence of Lulu especially since, according to Kevin, Lulu banned you. If they did your loyalty is amazing! Mind you Kevin told us you'd been banned by Lulu and also said you had died and the latter was clearly untrue. Anyway I have left my books on Lulu so I haven't completely lost faith with the company. I did make my last ebook with Draft2Digital because, unlike Lulu, they allow global distribution and they don't charge to do that.
