I know it's bad. But can you not republish them in paperback? Or is it something you'd rather keep hard cover. I know how you feel though it's been one let down after another with lulu since the update. They really were at one time a great place to publish books. But it's all gone down hill since last year. Sticking with them though for a little bit to see what happens. If my payments don't improve soon I might leave too.

While saddle stitch for books intended for children stands up to the abuse kids can put their books through, consider perfect bound. It's a better option than walking away.

It's the outrageous price that Lulu demands I sell my books at that would make them so overpriced no one would even consider them. That's why I chose saddle stitch. The only 2 options it gives me for any of my books are saddle stitch and hardcover. I did put one out in hardcover and Lulu insists that it be priced over $42.00. No one is going to pay that. No one. They've screwed me. Totally screwed me. I give up. Think I'm going to pack it in. Pull my books and just go on being a nobody who is constantly kicked in the teeth whenever he tries to do something good. After nearly a half-century of this kind of b.s., I've had my fill.

Yeah I have one hardcover out too. It's so over priced I'd make around 50 cents profit. I've sold one and that was a student I used to teach. Sorry I didn't know saddle stitch was paperback or I wouldn't have recommended the paperback. I'm wondering since this was not your fault if Lulu would be gracious enough to let you revise them under the other binding and give you a free proof. I mean it wasn't your fault and it's worth a try. You'd at least get your books back out. I understand the frustration. I'm still upset with Lulu for my missing books, bugs in the wizard , and money I've lost this year. I still remember how great they once were. But maybe contact them and see if they will provide an option. Nothing to lose for trying it.

I was watching "Alone" back in Montreal with nothing to do but dream of nature -- and an introductory quote struck me: Survival is endurance. You must endure. Jump through the hoops, go over the obstacles, tolerate the pain, then you win. Never pack it in.

I know it's bad. But can you not republish them in paperback? @tynermason I checked just a few pricing calculators on the internet. With somes, you have to pay all pages with colour printing - even maybe only 50% are pictures and the other 50% are black/white text - some you pay only colour printing for the colour pages. I took US-letter (8.5x11.0), paperback and (you didn't tell it) 32 pages to have a page number to compare.
Lulu Standard colour 3.00 Lulu Premium colour 6.84 Mybestseller.co.uk starting at 57 pages Draft2Digital.com starting at 64 pages B&N Standard colour 3.97 B&N Premium Colour 6.13 KDP 3.65 IngramSpark Standa 4.12 (no upset fee with coupon)
IngramSpark Prmium 6.11 (no upset fee with coupon)
Assuming that the retail price is three times the print price (one third for the bookstore, one third for the print, one third for the rest, including author), I still come to what I consider affordable prices (always between 10.00 and 20.00).
Saddle stitching is the paper folded and sewn or stapled, while paperback is cold glued by machine.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with Lulu. I know from experience that dealing with them can be somewhat frustrating.
I'm sure you already know this, but typically, saddle-stich is only used for magazines and not books. As Benziger mentions above, "saddle-stitching is the paper folded and sewn or stapled, while paperback is cold glued by machine." With saddle-stitching you also have to be aware that the more pages you use, the more of the paper is trimmed off the center pages.

I have yet to sell any of my newest books. At least not that I know of, as they were on Amazon with several of each in stock, but nothing on Lulu about any sold. Here's the link: www.lulu.com/spotlight/TynerMason Thank you for your understanding. I'm sorry you've been treated poorly by them as well.

However, the only options Lulu gave me for all of my books were saddle stitch or hard cover. I had no choice but to go with saddle stitch. Except for I'll Do It Tomarra Lara Christmas, the book for which they only gave me option of hard cover. It's ridiculous. They told me in a twitter message that my books will still be for sale on the Lulu Bookstore. And, I told them flat out that NO ONE goes to their Lulu Bookstore to purchase books. Most people have no idea they exist. Amazon & B&N have customers, as they are very well known. Lulu is not well known, except to those of us who have been unlucky enough to be screwed over by them.
