I know it's bad. But can you not republish them in paperback? @tynermason I checked just a few pricing calculators on the internet. With somes, you have to pay all pages with colour printing - even maybe only 50% are pictures and the other 50% are black/white text - some you pay only colour printing for the colour pages. I took US-letter (8.5x11.0), paperback and (you didn't tell it) 32 pages to have a page number to compare.
Lulu Standard colour 3.00 Lulu Premium colour 6.84 Mybestseller.co.uk starting at 57 pages Draft2Digital.com starting at 64 pages B&N Standard colour 3.97 B&N Premium Colour 6.13 KDP 3.65 IngramSpark Standa 4.12 (no upset fee with coupon)
IngramSpark Prmium 6.11 (no upset fee with coupon)
Assuming that the retail price is three times the print price (one third for the bookstore, one third for the print, one third for the rest, including author), I still come to what I consider affordable prices (always between 10.00 and 20.00).
Saddle stitching is the paper folded and sewn or stapled, while paperback is cold glued by machine.
Yes, I knew this about saddle stitch/paperback. However, the only options Lulu gave me for all of my books were saddle stitch or hard cover. I had no choice but to go with saddle stitch. Except for I'll Do It Tomarra Lara Christmas, the book for which they only gave me option of hard cover. It's ridiculous.

It's the outrageous price that Lulu demands I sell my books at that would make them so overpriced no one would even consider them. That's why I chose saddle stitch. The only 2 options it gives me for any of my books are saddle stitch and hardcover. I did put one out in hardcover and Lulu insists that it be priced over $42.00. No one is going to pay that. No one. They've screwed me. Totally screwed me. I give up. Think I'm going to pack it in. Pull my books and just go on being a nobody who is constantly kicked in the teeth whenever he tries to do something good. After nearly a half-century of this kind of b.s., I've had my fill. I was watching "Alone" back in Montreal with nothing to do but dream of nature -- and an introductory quote struck me: Survival is endurance. You must endure. Jump through the hoops, go over the obstacles, tolerate the pain, then you win. Never pack it in. This is the second time I've been screwed over by a publishing company. The first time was in 2003. After getting my rights back, I put my books away and left them until November of 2020. And here I am, once again being screwed over by a company that has been distributing saddle stitch books globally for decades and suddenly stops without notice. I am giving up. The Universe obviously doesn't want me to achieve anything in life. Therefore, after two failed attempts, I concede. I will leave my books on Lulu so I may purchase them myself and donate them to our local libraries and grade schools, if they want them. Other than that, they will sit there, unnoticed on Lulu's bookstore, as my first 2 books did for about 15 years, no matter how hard I tried to get anyone to look. I am done.

Hey Tyner - your Lulu book store link comes up "404 - page not found". Is that the correct link?

I used Lulu's guidelines. I downloaded all of the information available. I published all of my books before Valentine's Day this year. There was nothing in the guidelines about a change of global distribution. I am not jumping through Lulu's hoops. The company has gone completely downhill and I have had my fill of them. They produce beautiful books, yet they are ridiculously overpriced. They give many options for printing, yet the majority of them are unavailable when it's time to choose. I was only given the options of saddle stitch or hard cover for 5 of my books and only hard cover for 1 of them. It's absolutely ludicrous that believe that their little Lulu Bookstore is in any way able to compete with Amazon or Barnes & Noble. In 15 years, I have only sold 3 books from their bookstore. And I promoted them like mad. NO ONE wants to go to Lulu Bookstore to buy a book, as they are not a trusted, giant bookseller. Lulu is a small fish in an ocean of water. The only reason I chose them is because they print beautiful books and they distributed all of their books globally. I've had my fill. I've been screwed over by two publishing companies now in 20 years time. Enough is enough. I will let my books sit on their little store site so that I may purchase them myself to give to our local libraries and grade schools, if they want them.

The recent withdrawal was out of Lulu’s control.
When you created and first published your books Lulu was not aware of future restrictions.

The recent withdrawal was out of Lulu’s control. When you created and first published your books Lulu was not aware of future restrictions. Well, so be it. It happened. Yet, I cannot believe that Amazon, a company that sells everything under the sun, would suddenly stop selling a certain kind of bound book. As I had a thriving Amazon business for the better part of a decade, I am quite familiar with their fervent desire to sell anything and everything they possibly can. Therefore, I do not believe Lulu. The company that has recently caused so many authors so much grief.

Well, so be it. It happened. Don't let these adversities get you down. Lulu won't mind. Choose the direct route if possible. Maybe it's a bit more complicated at the beginning. Since almost all suppliers distribute via Amazon and IngramSpark, the direct route would be to publish directly with Amazon or IngramSpark (or both). IngramSpark charges a one-time fee, but there are always coupons and then it is waived. You're a few steps ahead of the game. Now you can't give up!
I played a little with Ingram's price calculator
I added one empty page at the end to have a pair page number. Then I calculated first with your list price, then with an other, cheaper one - just to check if you would still make some profit. For the bookshop, I put a40% margin (in Switzerland it is between 33-40%, Amazon like books with 50%). As it was just playing, I took just the smallest and the biggest of your books. Voilà: Lara | Sheriff | Christmas | Halloween | Valentine | Grandma | Saddle Stitch US-Letter

It's on you, but it should work with one of the big ones: Download allt your PDF from Lulu and upload it to X. One last effort ....
Amazon is certainly the biggest retailer. Ingram probably has the largest distribution network. Worldwide. Online and physical bookshops.
Some take Ingram and exclude Amazon there and then take Amazon directly to get a bigger margin there.

Thank you for looking all this up and factoring it, but I'm packing it in. What I have available is out there, and if someone happens upon it, then at least for a fleeting moment my works will be seen. Thank you again.

So Everyone, I decided to at least take a look at Lulu's new demands for Global Distribution. And, I'm still screwed. My book, "I'll Do It Tomarra Lara" is only 21 pages long. That includes title page, Copyright page, Dedication Page and "The End" Page. There is no need for a bunch of blank pages, yet Lulu insists now that I have 24 pages for Global Distribution. It's just b.s. I didn't expect to find anything good when I checked into it, and I was right. I am actively trying to get people to visit my author spotlight page, but so far no one appears interested. I've even stated how I am going to donate 10% of royalties from all of my books to The Pet Adoption League. No one wants to shop a little, unknown website when they can go to Amazon or B&N for books.

Tyner: Add a couple of pages at the back of your book mentioning your other books, with little blurbs and cover images. That will get your page count up as well as help in your advertising efforts.
