PS have you posted in Paul's fan club page www.facebook.com/PMCFanClub/ Thanks, Larika I looked at the fan club page - it is not his official one. In fact on his official page, all of the content is from his team However, I am on lots of other facebook Beatles and Wings pages - this has undoubtedly provided 90% of my trade. Lots of people got my book today in the US - they shared it on these types of Facebook groups, other people took an interest and I got two more sales. After the initial interest has died down, most of my sales will probably be on Amazon, but as we know - they take a big cut.

I am annoyed with Amazon. I made most of my ebooks free in Lulu, but Amazon took them and is charging $.99 for them.

potet How does it cost Amazon anything. They get it free from Lulu where I made it and put it on their site. Then if it's downloaded that too costs them nothing ,right? Maybe there is something I'm not seeing.

Apparently - and I have no first hand knowledge, it's what I read - if you post your zero-cost free ebook on a site that Amazon price matches against their computers have no choice but to offer it for free as well to be competitive. Smashwords seems to be quite popular as the choice for doing this plus you get the added bonus of increasing the exposure and availability.
I assume the reason Amazon won't price-match a free book that's on Lulu is because it's one of their suppliers rather than a competitor.

Kindle Direct Publishing Terms and Conditions 5.3.4 Customer Prices. To the extent not prohibited by applicable laws, we have sole and complete discretion to set the retail customer price at which your Books are sold through the Program.
Or as somebody else put it - "Amazon can and will adjust your price as they see fit."
As to why, pick whatever theory you want out of the hat because you won't get any kind of answer from Amazon that doesn't involve the words "confidential business practice." But here's mine....
Amazon is price-matching your ebooks against those titles that Kobo currently offer for free. America being such a big, rich, thriving megalopolis Amazon have decided that everyone there can aford 99 cents out of the change from buying their hot dogs and chitlins'. Meanwhile here in poor, cold, Britain where the government have decided that 99 pence can feed a family of five for a day Amazon have charitably made some ebooks available for free. Now we can afford to put a shilling in the meter for leccy to charge our Kindles and have something to read instead of spending our time waving at lorry drivers not going anywhere (UK joke.)
Seriously, it may just be the case that local Amazons choose to price-match different competitors depending on what region they're in.

We used to have "fixed book prices". That is, the publisher set the binding sales price. To the annoyance of the big bookshops, which could not lure customers into the shop with promotional prices, and to the delight of many small bookshops, which were not more expensive than the big ones in the city, even in remote areas. Later, mail-order bookshops put a pencil mark somewhere at the bottom or on the last page and sold the book at a reduced price as a "defective copy". Today there is no longer a "fixed book price". The biggest bookshop in the country immediately raised all prices by 10%, but always offers the 100 most up-to-date books at unbelievable discounts...
I think it's similar with Amazon: they set their price. At the end of the day, as a customer, I can choose:
- either I look (time expenditure) to see if I can get larika's book for free
- or I buy it in a hurry from Amazon (money expenditure).
(Whereby I suspect that at Amazon it's not people but algorithms that set the price. At IngramSpark I can enter the bookstore discount for my books. It also says how much Amazon would like... If I now give less, Amazon will either not take my book or, if necessary, increase the price so that their margin corresponds to their ideas.)

IF only Paul Mc himself would endorse the book - then I could probably book a holiday to the Caribbean for a few weeks! I mean, you can push that a bit. Why don't you send Paul McCartney a copy with a personal dedication? Then you might well get a thank-you letter in which he writes a few nice lines about the book.
Best is to send it at his private address if you know it. In Switzerland it would be sufficient to know the street name, as if there is no house number, the post will ad it as customer service, but I do not know, how it works with Royal Mail, as you have this postcodes that includes not only the town, but also the address.

PS have you posted in Paul's fan club page www.facebook.com/PMCFanClub/ Adrian have you thought of contacting Paul and asking if he'd write an introduction for the book? Can you imagine that? Then redo the cover to add "Introduction by Paul Mcartney" . You be rich in now time lol Edit: Sorry didn't see that was already mentioned

I know and have spoken to a number of people "one degree of separation" from him - including two former members of his band for this latest book. However, they are not currently in touch with him. Apparently, only one former member of Wings has his phone number - and I've not spoken to this guy. So it becomes like writing to the Queen or the Prime Minister - a bit of a worthless exercise. Somebody suggested sending my first book to his offices at MPL, London. I wasted my time and my money and I won't be doing it again. There is no doubt that he is aware of my books - and if he ever wants to contact me, my phone number is inside each book. But I'm not chasing him, as it's not my style. I know people who have tried to do the same with their books - again, zero response.

It’s never a waste of time writing to Her Majesty The Queen.
